5 Reasons to Pick Up a Camera
If you're looking for a sign to start learning how to use a camera, here it is!
Have you ever considered getting into photography? Maybe you were intimated and never started. Maybe you didn’t have time and never started. Or maybe, no, you’ve never considered it before. Picking up a new skill or hobby can be pretty overwhelming at first, but it's also super rewarding once you get the hang of it. Regardless of why you've never really picked up a camera, here are five reasons why it's time to change that!
Viewing the World Through a New Lens
Okay, pun intended, but also, you really do start looking at things differently when you get into photography! As a photographer, you’re always on the lookout for a plant that sticks out more or a sharp building to get your next shot. So even when you’re not shooting, you’re noticing more about the world around you because you’ve trained yourself to look into all the little details! In a way, life becomes so much more interesting and beautiful. After all, perspective is everything, right?
Document Anything and Everything
The phrase “it’s the small things that matter” holds extremely true in photography. If you see a breathtaking sunset, it might be just a small part of your day, but why not take a picture so that you can remember the awe you felt when you saw it? Or if you’re at a family party and everyone’s having a good time, it might be a good idea to snap a shot of all the smiles and laughter. Again, a small moment in life, but quite meaningful. Maybe you’re a parent who wants to keep a log of you child’s life- both big and small moments. These photographs or videos also makes for great memories to share and pass on to other loved ones!
New Connections
Being a photographer is one of the best ways to meet new people. There’s a few different groups of people you can build relationships with. For starters, being in the camera space lets you meet other professionals and hobbyists. There’s a community for everything, and photography is no different. It doesn’t just end there, however. As a photographer, you also get to meet a variety of people when you shoot- whether it’s the model you’re taking pictures of or others on set. It’s an endless stream of people to create new memories with, and so many stories and perspectives to learn from.
An Excuse to Travel
Using a camera and traveling basically goes hand in hand. How else are you going to find new shots, new places, new ways to snap an image or take a video? Being in an unfamiliar place and working outside of your comfort zone is a great challenge to overcome to become better at your photography or videography. You might have to think on your feet to get some of those really unique shots! Besides, traveling will expose you to a variety of cultures and experiences, helping you grow as a person as well.
Extend Your Hobbies
Cameras are great because their purpose to to preserve and keep an image of something. You can easily slip photography into other things you already enjoy. Are you a chef? Well, now you can get some amazing shots of your edible creations. Love animals? Now you can shoot with your favorite pups, cats, or whatever animal you prefer! Of course, this is just to name a few ideas. You can really integrate photography with anything without putting time aside for it!
At the end of the day, it really doesn’t hurt to pick up a new skill and you really benefit from learning how to use a camera. Besides, how would you know whether you like it or not if you haven’t tried it out? Once you start, you might not stop! The bet thing is that you don’t need any fancy gear to start- even the most basic camera will set you on the right path. So, good luck with your photography endeavors!
